That’s the article I got the quote above from. He committed to ending the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy but no time frame for it yet. He said some truly wonderful things, I’ve got the article and will bring it for you tomorrow if you haven’t seen it yet. He calls’ “painful and heartbreaking” the bias some continue to hold against gays’.

I saw a headline that he had repealed the ban on gays in the military but haven’t had a chance to follow the story as yet…but woo hoo!!

Sniping wise I agree with you 100%. Some commentators are saying he won the medal simply for ‘not being Bush’ but I think it goes beyond that. His speeches reaching out to the Muslim world, for instance, are truly inspirational. According to some of my Muslin colleagues his words are already making a real difference in Muslim communities around the world.

Thanks Sally, picture wise I recycled some of the artwork I created for our final OnTrack presentation in semester one. I added the medal and background text then played with the lighting a little bit. The background text is snippets of what is engraved on the medal – Pro pace et fraternitate gentium or For the peace and brotherhood of men. The wording is a little ‘old fashioned’ shall we say, but the sentiment is clear.

Thank you Phil. Where did you find it? It’s a magnificent picture. The medal looks like the shining light or something up there and it’s different from the usual photographs. He’s extremely photogenic but that seems to make all the photos look the same. How are all those sniping people, saying “but he hasn’t done anything yet. He’s just been talking about issues”. D’oh! That’s the point. He’s getting everyone he can together to talk.
